Temporary labour hire, explained without the bill rate.
Temporary labour hire is an arrangement where one business employs a worker and supplies them to work under another business's direction, for a defined period or a defined task. The host business directs the work and pays an invoice. The labour hire provider carries the employment: the contract, payroll, PAYG, superannuation, workers compensation and award compliance. That structure is the whole point, because it is what lets you scale headcount up and down without the machinery of hiring and terminating employees.
MyGig runs exactly that model, with one difference that matters at invoice time. Traditional providers quote a single hourly bill rate with a margin, typically 20% to 35%, buried inside it, so you cannot see what the worker was paid. MyGig itemises the award rate with the clause cited, the casual loading, date-specific penalties, superannuation, workers compensation and payroll tax, then adds a flat 15% service fee. You see the estimate before you book and you only pay for hours actually worked.

Good questions, straight answers.
What is the difference between temporary labour hire and a temp agency placement?
In a placement, the agency finds a candidate and you employ them, usually for a fee based on their salary. In labour hire, the worker stays employed by the provider for the whole engagement. With MyGig, the workers are MyGig employees while they work for you, which is why there is no placement fee and no obligation between shifts.
Should I check my provider's authorisation?
Yes. Labour hire licensing is state by state: Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT run licensing schemes, while NSW, WA, TAS and NT currently do not. Under several of those schemes a host business that engages an unlicensed provider is exposed too, so confirm what applies where your site is and ask for evidence rather than assurance. MyGig is the authorised Employer of Record in NSW, WA, TAS and NT and will supply our details in writing.
How long can a temporary worker stay?
There is no fixed limit with MyGig. Some businesses book a single shift to cover a sick call, others run the same people for months across a peak season. If a temporary arrangement is really becoming a permanent one, the Employer of Record model is usually the cleaner way to hold it long term, and we can talk that through.
What does temporary labour hire cost in Australia?
Traditional providers quote an all-in hourly bill rate, and the margin inside it is generally 20% to 35% depending on the role and volume. MyGig publishes its number instead: a flat 15% service fee on wages and on-costs, the same for every client, itemised on the estimate before you book.
